Lawn mowing is one of the most basic tasks one can do.
Unfortunately, so many people get it wrong as they often misconstrue basic to
be simple, basic doesn’t always mean simple.
Today, we will focus on things you need to know about lawn mowing in Simpsonville in order
for you to get the yard that you’ve always dreamed about having.
1. If your
yard gets plenty of sun and it’s not cut too short, it has the potential to be
very healthy which can be attributed to production of enough food by the leaf
blades for a healthy yard like this. Your roots will easily be able to find
water and nutrients in your soil as they’ll be deep and full which will allow
them to store more food. It is advisable that you mow your lawn higher for
deeper roots.
2. To promote
deeper root system, cut the top third of the blade which will shade the lawn.
When it comes to warm-season grasses, they should be trimmed at about 2 inches
from the top. Scalping or mowing too low means you’ve cut the lawn too short
which can leave ugly brown patches where there’s uneven ground and can cause a
strain on the roots. It also leads to weeds spreading through the turf. So, for
your warm season grasses cut 1/3 of the blade or 2 inches. No more, no less.
3. It’s not
necessary to mow once a week or even once a month. Wait till the grass grows
long enough that cutting 1/3 of that blade will not obstruct its growth or
health. Mow more often when your yards are in quick growth periods and mow less
often when they are in slow growth periods. Be careful about cutting too much
of grass that it’s not greener any longer.
4. There are
many homeowners who doesn’t love mowing their yards or the task of mowing is
not one of their favorite chores and they often rush through the process. It’s
not the healthiest idea for your yard. Carrying out the mowing task hastily may
not bear fruitful results for your yard. Wet or tall grass needs a steady hand,
even dry grass may lead to sheering and poorly mulched clippings. When mowing
your yard, take your time or you could have problems that might require more
expensive treatments down the line.
Prior to mowing your yard:
1. Ensure the
mower blades are sharp as dull blade tears at the grass which can lead to
insects or disease.
2. Make sure
your mower deck is clean and there’s no grass build-up there.
3. Clear any
stones or sticks out of the way as these can damage the mower.
4. Never mow
when the lawn is wet as mowing a wet yard gives an uneven cut and also causes
the cuts to be shredded which isn’t good for the grass.
5. Don’t allow
children mow the yard until they are old enough.
6. Every time
you mow, mow in different patterns.
